
Marcela Fuentes is a Pushcart Prize-winning fiction writer and essayist. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and was the 2016-2017 James C. McCreight Fiction Fellow at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing. She was born and raised in Del Rio, Texas.
Her acclaimed debut novel Malas, won the Texas Institute of Letters First Fiction Prize, the Western Heritage Literary Award, the REFORMA Book Award, and was longlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. Malas received starred reviews from Kirkus, Publisher’s Weekly, Booklist, the Washington Post, and The New York Times, was featured in People, Elle Magazine, and Texas Monthly, and was selected Good Morning America Book Club’s pick for June 2024.
